An Intersection of Muralists

Film Premiere, Chicano Park tour, and Q & A with Mario at Gallery D

Join us to celebrate the release of a short documentary featuring legendary Chicano artist Mario Torero. Global arts network The Artist Odyssey will celebrate the release of its forth artist documentary, Mario Torero-Artivist, a short film featuring renowned muralist and Chicano painter Mario Torero. Open to the public, the event takes place at Gallery D in Barrio Logan, where the exhibition An Intersection of Muralists is currently on view, featuring Mario and other San Diego and Baja muralists.

To join the Chicano Park tour with Mario, meet at 4:15 at the kiosk/stage in Chicano Park. This free event requires RSVP at or (858) 480-1264

Event: An Intersection of Muralists

Location: Gallery D, 1878 Main St, Unit D, San Diego, CA 92113

Dates: February 13-March 26, 2016. Gallery hours by appointment.
Opening Reception: February 13, 2016 6-10pm.
Closing Reception: March 12, 2016 6-10pm.
Opening and Closing events will coincide with Barrio Art Crawl.

About: Each mural artist is painting in a 8' x 12' space of an interior gallery wall. Artists are reflecting on the neighborhood of Barrio Logan, having many historically valuable murals painted during the Chicano movement in the late 1960s/70s and beyond, which is marked physically by nearby Chicano Park. Today, the mural and street art movement is experiencing a resurgence as the Barrio Logan neighborhood is experiencing a lot of development and a lot of popularity amongst burgeoning arts groups.

Exhibiting artists: Manu Faves, Esther Gamez Rubio, George Garcia, Sake Saratoga, Mario Torero, Melissa Walter, and Anna Zappoli

Event: It Takes An Artist: A Show About Mentorship

About: Presenting Gallery D's debut show in Barrio Logan featuring artists: Dia Bassett, Beliz Iristay, Rizzhel Javier, Bhavna Mehta, and Lee Puffer. Following the theme of mentorship, each professional artist is exhibiting work alongside that of their selected students. In addition to the featured artists, students from Rancho El Faro Orphanage in Mexico, City Tree Christian School, Palomar College, and MiraCosta College will also be exhibiting artwork.

Opening reception on December 12 in conjunction with the Barrio Art Crawl.
